The
colors of the belts and their meanings
White Belt: The instructor awards the student a White Belt signifying the student's good intentions to get on a wholesome way. A seed is planted.
Yellow Belt: The Student has been in the school at least four months; you stayed with program and try very hard to do what the instructor tells you to do. The student sees the light and is trying out of his/her own efforts to get there. The seed breaks through.
Green Belt: The student now is very much stabilized. Your self-confidence has grown in the past 9-11 months. The seed has grown into a flowering tree.
Blue Belt: The student now makes Martial Arts more than just a past time activity. The tenets of Taekwondo take on an active part in your everyday life. For the past 15-18 months the tree has been growing bigger and stronger trying to reach the sky. Reaching this point it is unlikely for the student to give up his training and just quit.
Red Belt: 24-28 months of hard training cannot go by without a trace. The color red signifies danger; dangerous for others to approach you in a harmful way, but also as a warning to the student not to be over confidant or to lose your humbleness.
Black Belt: It takes at least 36 months to reach this stage. Imperviousness to fear and darkness is signified by wearing a black belt to hold your white uniform together. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, self-discipline, and Indomitable Spirit are words that have a clear and deep meaning to the student. You are on the way to receive the true meaning of the Martial Arts because you are now really ready to receive. You are now considered a true student of Taekwondo. At this point you are being asked to give back some of what you have received to fellow students, so they in turn can benefit.
